The 51st edition of the International Cervantino Festival -FIC- will be held from October 13 to 29 with Sonora and the United States of America as guests of honor.
At the Palace of Fine Arts, the Governor of Guanajuato, Diego Sinhue Rodriguez Vallejo, presided over the presentation of this new edition in the Cervantina Capital of America, where world culture converges.
“It will be a great festival with two super luxury guests; Sonora and the United States are great because of their cultural cosmovision; more than a million and a half Guanajuatenses live in the United States”, said Rodriguez Vallejo.
“I imagine this festival as a meeting of families, of those who left and who today return as guests, because there is a great heritage of Mexican-Americans,” said the Governor.
The United States, added the Governor, is a friendly and partner country of Guanajuato. With Sonora, the bonds of friendship and cooperation will be strengthened, since culture is a bridge of friendship that unites the interior of Mexico with the whole world to show the Fine Arts from a single place: Guanajuato.
“There is a great relationship between Guanajuato and the United States, you can not understand the growth of Guanajuato in the last thirty years without the United States, because we export shoes, vehicles, clothing, food, among many other things; USA is a great guest for Guanajuato, not only because of the relationship, but because of the history that unites us”, said the Governor.
The Ambassador of the United States of America in Mexico, Ken Salazar, and the Governor of Sonora, Alfonso Durazo Montano, appreciated the opportunity to show their cultural treasure and anticipated that it will be a historic edition with the fusion of two peoples that have lived together throughout history.
“It is an opportunity to show the freedom and understanding of the peoples of the nations, we already do it in many activities, but now with culture it will be a great opportunity to show what our peoples have. It is a great opportunity to continue with our cultural work”, said the Ambassador.
“We are extremely excited to be able to show Mexico and the world our artistic expressions and all disciplines. The Cervantino Festival is an opportunity to share the natural and cultural wealth and human talent and, of course, the vast cultural heritage, traditions and customs of our State,” said the Governor of Sonora.
The Secretary of Culture of the Government of Mexico, Alejandra Frausto Guerrero, agreed that the Cervantino Festival manages to place the extraordinary of the arts in a unique setting like Guanajuato.
“All the cultures of the world are welcome at the Cervantino, because it has been the space for dialogue, for contact with artistic and cultural wealth; they are the soul of nations and of peoples,” said Frausto.
Mariana Aymerich Ordonez, General Director of Promotion and Cultural Festivals, said that it will be a reunion “full of tradition, origin, avant-garde and diversity” to be held from Friday 13 to Sunday 29 October; and she anticipated that from February 23 the call for the creation of the image of the 51st Edition of the International Cervantino Festival will be open.
“We have hopes set in this edition, and with these wonderful guests of honor we will meet the expectations of the public; I welcome Sonora and the United States of America to the biggest cultural festival in Latin America”, said Aymerich.
Also present at the presentation were the Rector General of the University of Guanajuato, Luis Felipe Guerrero Agripino, and the Director of Culture of Guanajuato, Adriana Camarena de Obeso.
