The Agave Festival will be held at Canada de Negros

This year 16 tequila producers, gastronomic and dessert exhibitors will participate

The ‘Agave and its Roots Festival’ will be held in Cañada de Negros

The municipality of Purisima del Rincon is preparing to celebrate, on May 19, with more than 50 exhibitors, the 2nd. edition of the Agave and its Roots Festival in the Main Square of Canada de Negros.  

Representing Juan Jose Alvarez Brunel, Secretary of Tourism of the State of Guanajuato; Frida Huett Lopez, Director of Tourism Products, with Miguel Angel Servin Villanueva, Interim Mayor of Purisima del Rincon, gave the details of this event that begins at 12:00 noon and finishes at 9:00 pm.

Through the Public Policy “Guanajuato Si Sabe”, SECTUR promotes gastronomic events that highlight the endemic ingredients of Guanajuato.

This event will celebrate the culture and tradition of the agave of Purisima del Rincon, a touristic destination that has the Denomination of Origin Tequila, a recognition that guarantees the quality and authenticity of the agave and its derivatives produced in this area.

Besides, the festival consolidates Canada de Negros -a community located in the touristic corridor just 20 minutes from the City of Purisima del Rincon -14 kilometers- and 15 minutes from Jalpa de Canovas -11 kilometers- as an important tourist spot in Guanajuato.

The interim Mayor noted that the first edition of the festival was held on May 21, 2023 and was a great success. “The event had the participation of numerous local producers, artisans and artists. There was also live music, a horse show, folk dances and tequila and mezcal tasting”, said the interim Mayor.

This year 16 tequila producers will participate:

• Tequila Corralejo de Penjamo, Tequila 30-30, Exclusive Tequila from Purisima del Rincon, Tequila and Mezcal Ofrenda de los Dioses from Purisima del Rincon, Sacrificio Pulqueria from Purisima del Rincon, Tequila Galindo-Maradona, Tequila Grupo Corona, OKUI Mezcal from San Felipe, Hermanos de Sangre Mezcal, Campo Toro Winery from Manuel Doblado; Casa Rojas from Leon Guanajuato, El Manantial from Leon, Tequila Don Armando de Tonaya, Jalisco; Campo Azul Tequila from Altos de Jalisco; Toro Alteno Tequila from Altos de Jalisco; and Extreme Blue Tequila from the South of Jalisco

Attendees will enjoy the cuisine of exhibitors from:

• Purima del Rincon, Romita, Manuel Doblado, San Francisco and Leon

Presenting dishes like:

• Mole, rabbit meat, roast meats, birria, enchiladas, pambazos, corn gorditas with stews and meats, traditional dishes, seafood, meat tacos, and typical food

Participating there are exhibitors from communities like:

• Canada de Negros, El Toro, San Andres de Jalpa, Dolores Hidalgo CIN, and Purisima del Rincon, they bring to the festival desserts like crepes with agave honey, crepes with cured meat, traditional milkshakes, corn cobs, homemade flan, homemade gorditas, among other

The festival has been received with enthusiasm by the Canada de Negros community, who hope that the event will become an annual tradition and contribute to the economic and social development of the region.
