State and Municipal Officials work together to promote Uriangato as a leading tourist destination

The Secretary of Tourism and Identity of Guanajuato held a work reunion in Uriangato with municipal authorities and representatives of society, to keep work on projects that strengthen the tourism, textile, and cultural vocation of the municipality.
During the visit, Secretary Maria Guadalupe Robles Leon met with Mayor Juan Carlos Martinez and agreed to join forces to consolidate the municipality’s tourism strengths, as directed by Governor Libia Dennise Garcia Munoz Ledo.
“Uriangato is an example of how tourism and tradition come together to generate development. Our commitment is to provide you with the tools to help this destination grow and shine to its full potential,” said Lupita Robles, head of SECTURI.
Among the topics discussed are the remodeling of the Historic Center, the modernization of Leovino Zavala Boulevard, which concentrates much of the area’s textile activity with 4,000 merchants, and the promotion of the Cantoya International Balloon Festival, one of the municipality’s main attractions.
The importance of the Carpet Makers’ Route was also highlighted, a tradition with more than nine years of history that is now internationally recognized.
“The carpet makers’ route represents who we are: creativity, faith, and collective work. At SECTURI, we will strengthen its promotion, because this tradition deserves to be known throughout the world,” Robles said.
Robles said that Uriangato has the potential to diversify its tourism offerings toward adventure and nature activities, which would attract different types of visitors and expand the benefits for the community.
Finally, Robles reiterated that coordination of government and society will be key to advancing ongoing projects. “Tourism is a powerful tool to boost the economy and improve quality of life. Our job is to ensure that each project contributes to the development of families and the identity of Guanajuato,” Robles said.
