The stories, the myths and legends that have terrified generations of Guanajuatenses are presented in the Halloween Zoo

The legends of Guanajuato live on at Halloween Zoo, an event promoted by the Secretary of Tourism and Identity of the People’s Government, through the Council of the Tourism Promotion Fund (COFOTUR), which makes it possible for the Leon Zoo to present this festival as a space of suspense and entertainment, using the theme of “Legends of Guanajuato.”
This innovative project celebrates and preserves the stories and traditions that are part of the collective memory of Guanajuato, bringing them closer to new generations in an exciting and participatory way.
Guanajuato is renowned for its cultural richness, mystery, and oral tradition, elements that have fostered legends that have transcended generations.
In this edition of Halloween Zoo, the immersive tour brings together some of the State’s most emblematic stories, such as:
- The Mummies of Guanajuato and the Alley of the Kiss, the Plazuela de los Carcamanes, the Tomb of the Weeping Woman in Dolores Hidalgo, the Headless Coachman in Leon, the Martyred Mother in Irapuato, the Burning of Witches in San Francisco del Rincon, the Wormy Nun in Salamanca, the Monks on the Bridge in Celaya, the Ghost of the Terminal in Jaral del Progreso, and the spirits of the Expiatory Temple in Leon
Halloween Zoo has seen significant growth in attendance year after year, establishing itself as one of Leon’s most iconic celebrations. This increase reflects the population’s interest in preserving and sharing Guanajuato’s traditions, offering sensory and captivating experiences for the entire family. Events of this type strengthen the social fabric, generate economic dynamism, and position the State as a cultural landmark in Mexico.
With an expected attendance of more than 50,000, Halloween Zoo, Legends of Guanajuato is much more than entertainment; it’s a platform that creates jobs, increases hotel occupancy, and positions the State as the ideal destination for unique themed experiences in Mexico.
With this project, said Officials, Guanajuato reaffirms its leadership as an innovative State in the creation of tourism products that combine culture, history, and fun, demonstrating that our legends live on and that the Guanajuatense identity can excite and surprise visitors of all ages.
