The Governor of Guanajuato participated in the launch of the “Yes to Disarmament, Yes to Peace” campaign, which will be held from June 11 to 20 in Salamanca
The campaign is part of the CONFIA Security Strategy, enforced by the Government of Guanajuato

“In this Government of the People, public safety cannot be paused; it is a task we must work on every day,” said the Governor of Guanajuato, Libia Dennise Garcia Munoz Ledo.
The Governor led the launch of the “Yes to Disarmament, Yes to Peace” campaign, a national strategy promoted by the Ministry of Defense in coordination with Federal, State, and Municipal Authorities. The goal is to promote a culture of peace and reduce the risks associated with the possession of firearms at home.
In the ceremony held in front of the Sanctuary of the Lord of the Hospital, the Governor emphasized the importance of working together to achieve safer environments and stressed that peace is built from within communities, with citizen trust as its foundation.
“By saying no to weapons and yes to disarmament, we are talking about putting an end to violence and saying yes to creating peace, which must come with justice, respect, humanity, and opportunities to move forward, with education and health, because we all have the right to live without fear,” said the Governor of the People.
The campaign, which will run in Salamanca from June 11 to 20, invites citizens to anonymously surrender firearms in exchange for a financial incentive, with no legal consequences. The weapons will be publicly destroyed by the Mexican Army, ensuring transparency and trust.
This preventive effort seeks to avoid domestic tragedies, reduce illegal gun ownership, and strengthen the bond between citizens and security institutions.
The “Yes to Disarmament, Yes to Peace” campaign joins the actions of the CONFIA Security Strategy, implemented by the State Government to restore peace at the local level. CONFIA includes the restoration of public spaces, the strengthening of municipal police forces, and prevention programs aimed at young people and families.
Thanks to the CONFIA Strategy and coordination with the Federal Government, authorities have seized:
- 133 handguns
- 89 large guns in Guanajuato
- Between September 2024 and May 2025
- An increase of 40% and 102.27% respectively, compared to the previous year
As a result of actions to safeguard the lives of Guanajuatenses, intentional homicides have decreased since March.
The Federal Government acknowledged at its June 10 conference that Guanajuato has reduced intentional homicides by 55.6% from February to date, according to data from the Executive Secretary of the National Public Security System, an unprecedented advance in the last eight years.
The Government of Guanajuato reiterated its commitment to peace built on social participation, justice, and shared responsibility.
