The pieces of art go around a tour of Guanajuato in an exhibit in different venues and cities to delight art lovers with life-size reproductions

After passing through Celaya, the extramural exhibit “The Prado Museum in Guanajuato”, with fifty reproductions of the masterpieces of the renowned Spanish art museum, will be presented from this Thursday the 11th in Guanajuato City.
Life-size representations of “Las Meninas”, “The Garden of Earthly Delights”, “La Maja Naked” and other legendary pictorial pieces will be visible to passers-by in the Allende and San Fernando squares, in a joint initiative of the Government of Spain, the National Prado Museum and the Government of Guanajuato, through the State Institute of Culture, as part of the Mas Mundo in Guanajuato program.
The exhibit was formally inaugurated by Antonio Prats Mari, cultural and scientific advisor of the Spanish Embassy in Mexico and Maria Adriana Camarena de Obeso, director of the State Institute of Culture.
The showing of the exhibit in Guanajuato involves a multilateral effort that includes, on the part of Spain, the Ministries of Culture and Sports and Foreign Affairs, the European Union and Cooperation; as well as the Spanish Agency for International Development Cooperation, the Spanish Cooperation and the Cultural Center of Spain in Mexico.
“The Prado Museum in Guanajuato” continues an outdoor exhibit project that began in 2011 and has stopped in several Latin American cities. In Mexico, the exhibit has previously toured the country’s capital, San Luis Potosi, Morelia and Queretaro, but it is the first time that the same State receives it in several venues. In this case the exhibit will also travel to León and Irapuato.
The exhibition is designed to provide an approach to the main masterpieces of the Spanish art gallery. Through them, the public can take a chronological tour of the different schools that make up the artistic panorama of the Prado Museum’s permanent collection, from the 12th century to the early years of the 20th.
Also, it is possible to take a look at the history of Spain, Europe and Western art in general from the great masters of Iberian, Italian, Flemish, French, German and Dutch painting.
The exhibit consists of photographic reproductions of the highest quality, calibrated in detail to fully represent each pictorial piece protected by the Prado. The images, mounted on panels almost two meters wide, are reproduced at life size, so that the small paintings are shown complete and the works that exceed that dimension are shown in one of their details, to reveal their magnificence.
Some of the great masters that can be seen in this exercise of public art are:
- Fra Angélico, Andrea Mantegna, Hieronymus Bosch, Titian, Raphael, El Greco, Joaquín Sorolla and, of course, Diego Velázquez and Francisco de Goya
Adriana Camarena reported that the open-air exhibition, which will run until April 30, will be accompanied by an educational program that includes guided tours every Friday and the talk “Journey to the heart of art,” which will be given on April 22 at the Teatro Juárez.
“The Prado Museum in Guanajuato” will be on display in Guanajuato until April 30 and from May 9 it will move to the Calzada de las Artes of the Guanajuato Cultural Forum, in Leon.
