This event positions the El Coporo archaeological zone as a tourist destination
This ceremonial area is the only site belonging to the Tunal Grande culture that is open to the public

Surrounded by nature, history, traditions, ceremonies and gastronomy, the 3rd Chichimeca Equinox will be experiencedin Ocampo, in the “El Coporo” archaeological zone.
It will be on March 17, from 11:00 in the morning to 5:00 in the afternoon, when Guanajuato residents and tourists celebrate the beginning of spring. Equinox refers to an astronomical event that occurs twice a year and indicates the beginning of spring and autumn.
The sun crosses from the southern hemisphere to the northern hemisphere, taking the same time to be above the horizon as below it, this is what causes the day and night to last equal time.
On behalf of Juan Jose Alvarez Brunel, Secretary of Tourism of the State of Guanajuato, Frida Ximena Huett Lopez, Director of Tourism Products and Erick Silvano Montemayor Lara, Mayor of Ocampo, to give the details of this tourist event in one of the most important sites in Guanajuato.
This event represents the efforts to revive the traditions that the ancestors carried out and positioning El Cóporo archaeological zone as a tourist destination in the celebration of the equinox, and gives the visitor the opportunity to taste traditional food.
“In Guanajuato we continue writing and living great stories. El Coporo is a pre-Hispanic legacy that is reflected through adobe; “It is this great tunal that, from the word, tells us that it is the back and as such it supports the Universe, it is a powerful ceremonial center that, since 200 years AD, people have mobilized to see it, thank them, and observe,” said Frida Huett.
In this space, he said, “there are still remains and vestiges of the cuisine of those times and we can visualize what was happening at that time. With the equinox we will be able to see an incredible fusion”.
During the 3rd. Chichimeca Equinox -with a cost of 65 pesos for adults and 20 pesos for children-, visitors will be able to do activities such as hiking, horseback riding, temazcal; They will participate in three ceremonies with dance by Tribe Cuervo Venado, Chichimeca Jonaz, and Danza Rallados; In addition, they will try delicious local cuisine such as papata loca, nopal and xoconoxtle, ingredients that allow making a variety of dishes; and they will be able to live the experience offered by the tourist product “Senda del Arriero”, a community organization.
