“How can I pay them for loving me for all my songs? I’ve already started to think and I can’t cover such beautiful intentions to be able to pay them for loving me and all my songs,” says the song ‘Thank you’, by the King, as a prior thanks to those who like his music.

Today, the work of Jose Alfredo Jimenez is already Intangible Cultural Heritage, as signed in a Decree by the Governor of Guanajuato, Diego Sinhue Rodriguez Vallejo.

This declaration happened within as part of the National Tribute for the 50th Death Anniversary of the Guanajuato singer-songwriter, which coincides with the 14th Jose Alfredo Jimenez International Festival 2023 in the Cradle of National Independence.

“Today we come to leave a great record of our admiration for the town’s poet, to celebrate his life and give permanence to his musical spirit”, said Rodriguez Vallejo.

“Today we come to this blessed land where Mexico was born, and where the great Jose Alfredo Jimenez was also born, to sign the Government Decree Number 163, which declares the artistic expressions of this vernacular troubadour as Intangible Cultural Heritage of the State of Guanajuato,” said the Governor.

The songs of El Hijo del Pueblo have given national identity to several generations since the 1940s and, half a century after his departure, his songs are still valid and are performed in original versions and in various musical genres.
