The permanent campaign of vaccination against measles and other illnesses continues by the Secretary of Health of Guanajuato
Guanajuato/Gto News
The Secretary of Health reports that on Saturday and Sunday, 6,774 doses against measles were administered at 15 Macro-points of application.

In total, from April of last year to date, more than 530,000 doses have been administered. In addition to another 1,951 doses of other types of vaccines such as Hexavalent, influenza, pneumococcal, rotavirus, hepatitis B

Health Secretary Gabriel Cortes Alcala reported that measles is under control more than ever in all 46 municipalities; for this reason, vaccination is always available at the People’s Health Centers.
Cortes recognized the nursing staff from the Health Jurisdictions who joined in vaccinating people this past weekend.

It is important for the population to know the characteristics of this disease as well as the importance of having the complete vaccination schedule, although at this time there is no active transmission of the virus in Guanajuatense territory.
Children aged 12, 18 months and 6 years old must be vaccinated, or if they belong to the 10 to 49 age group and there is no vaccination history, those over 50 years old do not need to get vaccinated.
The application includes babies 6 months of age, who, even if there is no community transmission of the measles virus, must be vaccinated with the zero dose.

Cortes Alcala added that measles is a preventable disease through immunization, so a call is being made to mothers, fathers, guardians, students and education staff to complete their vaccination schedule.
The illness is highly contagious and is transmitted by droplets of saliva when coughing or sneezing, although it spreads easily, it can be effectively prevented with vaccines.
The most frequent symptoms include:
- Fever, nasal congestion, red or irritated eyes, small spots inside the mouth, a skin rash that starts on the face and spreads to the rest of the body. If not treated promptly, it can cause complications, especially in children and people with weakened immune systems

The measles, mumps, rubella (MMR) vaccine is intended for adolescents and adults and is recommended for those who have not been vaccinated or are unsure whether they have received this dose.
Other general recommendations include keeping classrooms and common areas ventilated, practicing frequent hand hygiene, and keeping classrooms, furniture, and shared areas clean.

In addition parents should make sure that children have complete vaccination schedules, if respiratory symptoms appear, rest and avoid attending school, seek timely medical attention, do not self-medicate, and wear a face mask when around other people, because prevention is everyone’s responsibility.
