The Iconografico del Quijote Museumn invites all to participate in its 2024 visual arts competitions
Guanajuato/Gto News
In order to promote artistic creation in all ages and encourage human development through literature and the arts, the Museo Iconografico del Quijote and the Fundacion Cervantina de Mexico invite all to participate in two visual arts competitions.
Both competitions are inspired on the book Don Quixote de la Mancha:
- The National Visual Arts Competition
- The Children’s Artistic Competition
NATIONAL VISUAL ARTS COMPETITION
The 28th edition of the National Arts Competition invites visual artists from all of Mexico to participate in the engraving category with a work inspired by the chapter “Sancho Panza, governor of the island of Barataria” in the novel Don Quixote de la Mancha.
To participate, you must be Mexican or have resided in Mexico for more than 6 months, have at least 3 individual and 3 verifiable collective exhibitions, and present your work before October 11, 2024 at the Museo Iconografico del Quijote.
The competition offers a prize of $100,000 pesos for first and second place for the acquisition of the work, which will be part of the MIQ collection, considered the most important and vast in the world, inspired by Alfonso Quijano and the characters of Cervantes’ novel.
The winning works, along with a special selection of 10 works, will be exhibited from the awards ceremony on November 15 through March 2025, as part of the museum’s 37th anniversary celebrations.
CHILDREN’S ART COMPETITION
Children will also be able to demonstrate their creativity and talent with the Children’s Art Competition, which is celebrating its twenty-first edition. Girls and boys from Guanajuato and all of Mexico from 7 to 12 years old will be able to participate with an interdisciplinary creation that combines the reading of the book Don Quixote de la Mancha and the visual arts.
To encourage reading, participants must read Chapter VII of “…the happily ended adventure of Don Quixote with the lions”, available in the book Don Quixote for children by Ediciones MIQ, available for free download on the museum’s website.
The contest has two age categories, from 7 to 9 years old and from 10 to 12 years old, and participants can win cash prizes of five thousand pesos and a collection of children’s and young adult books. Their work will be exhibited as part of the museum’s collection.
Contestants have until October 18 to send their works to the offices of La Manchita, MIQ’s children’s arts and reading center, located at Campanero #9 Centro, Guanajuato, Gto.
