Mining in Guanajuato: Pride, identity and sustainable development

For all Guanajuatenses it is a matter of pride, history and identity, noted Secretary Ramon Alfaro Gomez. The State Government ratified its support for the mining sector

“The mining industry in Guanajuato not only produces jobs and wealth, but also represents a matter of pride and identity for all Guanajuato residents”, said Ramon Alfaro Gomez, head of the Secretariat of Sustainable Economic Development -SDES-, in his participation in the Traditional Miners Breakfast of Guanajuato.

“Guanajuato is history, identity, tradition and culture. In addition, it is one of the most important centers of mining activity. They have the support of the State Government to continue strengthening this industry and building a better Guanajuato and a better country”, said Alfaro.

In recent years, mining has experienced significant technological advances and has implemented measures to care for the environment. Especially noteworthy are the improvements in occupational safety, which have contributed significantly to safeguarding the integrity of workers and improving their quality of life, aligning with Governor Diego Sinhue Rodríguez Vallejo’s vision of promoting sustainable and responsible development in the mining sector.

Guanajuato mining remains one of the sectors with the greatest roots and tradition in Guanajuato’s economy. This sector keeps Guanajuato in seventh place nationally in gold production and twelfth in silver production.

In addition, this industry generates 3,600 jobs in Guanajuato, consolidating itself as a fundamental pillar for regional economic development.

The commitment of the Government of Guanajuato to the mining sector is firm, and policies that promote its sustainable and responsible growth continue to be promoted. The integration of advanced technologies and the focus on the safety and well-being of workers are evidence of the joint effort to maintain mining as a symbol of progress and pride for Guanajuato.

The union of efforts of the mining sector and the Government guarantees that Guanajuato continues to be a national benchmark in mineral production, contributing significantly to economic development and reaffirming the pride and identity of Guanajuatenses.
