The Division of Sciences and Engineering of the University of Guanajuato, Leon Campus, in collaboration with the Secretary of Culture of Guanajuato and the Wigberto Jimenez Moreno State Central Library, invites the general public to the keynote lecture “Faster than Light,” given by renowned Mexican theoretical physicist doctor Miguel Alcubierre Moya.
Doctor Alcubierre is one of the most prominent figures in contemporary theoretical physics. His name has transcended borders thanks to his work on numerical simulations of black holes and the proposal of a mathematical solution within the theory of general relativity that would make it possible, at least in theory, too travel at speeds greater than the speed of light without violating known physical laws.
This idea, known as the “Alcubierre metric,” has sparked interest among scientists and science fiction enthusiasts alike, raising fascinating possibilities for interstellar travel.
In the talk, the audience will be able to learn firsthand the scientific foundations behind this hypothesis, its implications, challenges, and limitations, and reflect on how current science explores concepts that previously existed only in the realm of imagination.
The event will be held on Friday, May 23rd at 6:30 pm in the Mateo Herrera Auditorium located at the Forum headquarters of the Guanajuato Secretary of Culture, with free admission.
