“The arrival of Mazda 10 years ago accelerated the economic growth of Guanajuato. It meant the consolidation of the most dynamic automotive cluster in Latin America”, said Governor of Guanajuato, Diego Sinhue Rodriguez Vallejo, in the celebration of the 10 years of the Mazda Plant in Guanajuato.
“Today is a day of celebration, we are celebrating with all of you 10 Years of Mazda in Guanajuato. A story of greatness that we have written together. It was on February 27, 2014 that this plant was inaugurated; and it represented, at the time, the largest investment of this company in the entire world,” said the President.
Driven by this leading plant in productivity, quality and competitiveness, Guanajuato is currently the largest producer of cars in Mexico, noted the Governor.
Rodriguez Vallejo recalled that in 2012, the Salamanca Plant began its recruitment, selection and training process for operational personnel. And in that fundamental step for the success of the company, the State Government was there to provide its support.
The Governor highlighted that with talented, trained and committed workers and great leadership from its managers, the first vehicle manufactured by the plant came out in 2014: a Mazda 3 for the United States market.
The success of this plant have followed one after another. It began producing Mazda 2 and engines. In September 2019, production of the Mazda CX-30 3 SUV began, said the Governor.
Rodriguez Vallejo said that in January 2020 the plant reached a cumulative production of 1 million units after 6 years. A historical milestone that confirmed that Japan and Guanajuato are made for great things. “That the great working alliance that we have been able to build translates into extraordinary results.”
The Governor highlighted that in Salamanca the following vehicles are produced:
- Mazda 2 Sedan, Mazda 2 Hatchback, Mazda 3 Sedan, Mazda CX-30 and the Mazda CX-3, which began production in October 2022
“A fact that places the productivity of this plant and of the Guanajuato workers at the level of the best in the world. And it also speaks of the leadership and vision of the future of the Japanese managers of Mazda Salamanca, who have known how to lead this magnificent plant on the path to success,” he said.
Rodriguez Vallejo recognized the great work team that has formed this great company. Especially for the 5,400 workers of this plant.
“In Guanajuato we are very proud of all of you. Thank you for wearing the Mazda, Guanajuato and Mexico shirt,” he added.
The Governor thanked Mazda managers for their trust in investing more than 845 million dollars in Guanajuato this decade. Because they generate jobs that mean a dignified life and improvement for workers and their families.
“Today, Guanajuato continues to be the best investment destination in Mexico. And Japan is our main investment partner. From 2006 to date, 133 Japanese companies have arrived in our state with an investment of more than 7 billion dollars, which are generating more than 46 thousand jobs,” said the Governor.
