With the vision of promoting the integral development of Guanajuato’s tourist destinations, the Governor of the People, Libia Dennise Garcia Munoz Ledo, chaired the 1st Ordinary Session 2025 of the Tourist Advisory Council of the State of Guanajuato (COTUEG); in addition, she took the oath of office of the Council of the Fund for Tourism Promotion (COFOTUR).
“If there is something that has always characterized Guanajuatenses when we talk about Guanajuato, it is the great pride we feel for being from this land, from this wonderful State that has given so much to Mexico. That is why today I feel very happy to be able to witness this event in which we are swearing in the work team that will be guiding the actions in terms of tourism promotion,” said the Governor.
COTUEG is a consultative, advisory and technical support body in tourism matters. Its main objective is to analyze and channel proposals related to tourism. It is made up of 22 representatives from the public, private and social sectors, ensuring a broad and collaborative vision.
COFOTUR is responsible for managing the resources from the lodging tax. Its mission is to increase the influx of tourists through promotional activities, consolidating Guanajuato as one of the main tourist destinations in the country.
One hundred percent of the annual lodging tax revenue has been allocated to this fund for the promotion; this year it will be 162 million pesos, compared to 49 million pesos in 2024.
Among the benefits of installing COFOTUR is the economic boost, attracting more tourists who generate greater revenue that benefits local businesses, from hotels, restaurants, artisans and guides.
“Continue promoting this great State and working tirelessly to put Guanajuato in its rightful place. Today the call is for us to work as a team, to join forces to make Guanajuato this greatness, this identity and this pride that makes us feel part of this great State that has given so much to the country. Count on me, I will be very close working with you,” said the Governor of the People.
