On World Earth Day, the Governor of the People, Libia Dennise Garcia Munoz Ledo, presented the Guanajuato Water and Environmental Program, a comprehensive strategy that sets the course to guarantee water security, the protection of ecosystems and the well-being of Guanajuatense families.

The Governor highlighted that this plan represents the greatest coordinated effort between society and government to face environmental challenges, while reaffirming the commitment to move from diagnosis to solutions.

“This is a strategic program that links environmental conservation with water security, with the participation of society, our youth, and all three levels of government. Because we understand that caring for and protecting our resources is everyone’s responsibility,” said the Governor.
Along with the Water Plan, a historic agreement was announced between the People’s Government and the National Forestry Commission, which includes a concurrent investment of 60 million pesos for the restoration of strategic forest areas such as the Bosque de Agua and the Rio Laja, an unprecedented effort for environmental conservation in Guanajuato.

With this strategy, Guanajuato strengthens local projects in coordination with the Federal Government, such as the cleanup of the Lerma River, the modernization of Irrigation District 011 and the Solís Aqueduct, consolidating a long-term vision for water conservation.
“With this initiative, we are putting Guanajuato at the forefront of such an important issue with this comprehensive program,” the Governor emphasized.

The plan includes five strategic objectives aimed at addressing the State’s main environmental challenges, such as pollution, water scarcity and biodiversity loss, problems that directly impact the well-being of the population.
The Water and Environmental Program establishes a series of priority actions that will bring progress towards a sustainable and responsible model with natural resources.

Key actions include:
- Modernization of irrigation and efficient water use in agriculture
- Hydraulic infrastructure and sanitation
- Promotion of water reuse in industrial and urban sectors
- Sustainable land-use planning
- Protection of recharge zones
- Conservation of ecosystems

The Governor swore in the Environmental Guards, young people who will assume the responsibility of caring for the Protected Natural Areas and promoting environmental culture in their communities.
This initiative is part of the “People for the Environment” strategy, a citizen network that will promote actions such as reforestation, river cleaning, fire prevention and environmental education workshops.

“You will be our eyes, our hands, and with your passion I am sure we will make a difference,” the Governor said.
The Attorney for the Environment and Territorial Planning, Karina Padilla, highlighted that the Environmental Guards represent a new generation committed to care for nature and the future of the State.
