The People’s Government is strengthening coordination between the Federal Government and municipalities to anticipate risks, make timely decisions, and respond quickly to any emergency that could affect families, their property, agriculture, or public infrastructure.
The Governor of the People, Libia Dennise Garcia Munoz Ledo, presided over the Third Ordinary Session 2026 of the State Civil Protection Council and the installation of the Command Post in Guanajuato, accompanied by Laura Velazquez Alzua, National Coordinator of Civil Protection.
“The presence of all of you renews our commitment to our people. Therefore, with the implementation of this command, we strengthen our capacity for coordination and immediate response, and it sends a great message, because when we work as a team we are unstoppable,” said the Governor.
This session followed up on the ongoing work of the State Civil Protection Council in response to the rainy and tropical cyclone season, and also presented a summary of the recorded rainfall, the storage of the dams and the damages addressed.
Six flood prevention and mitigation projects on the Turbio River were highlighted. These projects help protect communities and agriculture and livestock production areas in Manuel Doblado, Cueramaro, Abasolo, and Penjamo.
The National Coordinator of Civil Protection outlined the hydrometeorological issues identified in Guanajuato and called on the relevant authorities to follow up on the works and actions necessary to reduce the possibility of floods.
The Command Post was also installed on this day, its purpose is to coordinate the immediate response capacity in the event of an emergency or disaster, in order to provide faster, more organized and closer assistance to those who may be affected.
The State of Guanajuato has Municipal Civil Protection Coordination corps in all 46 municipalities, and in 42 of them, 246 CERT (Community Emergency Response Team) groups operate, with 2,952 community brigade members trained to identify risks and provide a first response.
“When it comes to protecting our people, there are no levels of government or agencies that separate us, but rather a single common purpose, which is to deliver results for our people, protect our population, and be ready to respond to any emergency in matters of Civil Protection,” Libia Dennise emphasized.
