The Governor of the People, Libia Dennise Garcia Munoz Ledo, led the inauguration of the Visual Arts Program of the 53rd edition of the International Cervantino Festival (FIC).

The Visual Arts Program is one of the Festival’s broadest and most diverse expressions.

This year, the Cervantino Festival presents:

  • 46 exhibitions
  • In 31 venues in Silao, Leon, Celaya, Irapuato, Salamanca, San Miguel de Allende, and Guanajuato City
  • More than 400 national and international artists are participating

“Visual art not only unites us and brings us together. I’ve always felt that when you have the opportunity to touch these wonderful pieces of art with your eyes, they actually become mirrors, reflecting the deepest part of who we are,” said the Governor.

The Guanajuato State Governor was with Mexico’s Secretary of Culture, Claudia Curiel de Icaza; the British Ambassador, Susannah Goshko; and the Veracruz Secretary of Culture, Maria Xochitl Molina Gonzalez.

“I am truly excited because these first days of the Festival have demonstrated what can be achieved when we work as a team, when we make a reality the dream of connecting through art and culture,” said Libia Dennise.

This inaugural event for the Visual Arts Program took place at the Museo Iconografico del Quijote (MIQ), a testament to the legacy of Eulalio Ferrer Rodriguez, its founder.

This is the setting for the inauguration of the “Wildlife Photographer of the Year” exhibition, an internationally renowned exhibit that comes to Mexico for the first time thanks to the Natural History Museum in London, with the support of the British Embassy, the country guest of honor at FIC 53.

“Today, not only in Mexico but around the world, we need to touch the heartstrings of a world that seems so connected, yet so distant from our hearts. This Cervantino is meant to serve as a reminder of how important it is for us to continue connecting in our souls with what truly matters,” said the Governor of the People.

Later, Governor Libia Dennise, with Officials and guests, toured the Diego Rivera House Museum to admire the exhibits “Kahlo Without Borders” and “Diego Rivera and His Relationship with Veracruz.”
