Leon: 444 years of greatness

State and local authorities observe the 444th anniversary of the founding of Leon

On each and every day we live the slogan of our city: Work beats everything, remembered the Governor of Guanajuato

As he presided the ceremony for the 444 anniversary of the founding of the city of Leon, the State Governor Diego Sinhue Rodriguez Vallejo, said that Leon is a modern, competitive municipality that is recognized globally, and which is called to keep collaborating in the defense of liberties and democracy.

It was 444 years ago that Leon was founded and today we honor those who on January the 20th 1576 were part of the founding of the Villa de Leon, said the Governor.

Today, said Rodríguez Vallejo, we honor all those who have given their effort to build the city that we have today and of which we feel proud. Because the greatness of Leon, has a firm and solid basis, that won’t cede against difficulties, said the Governor.

Hard working people

“The greatness of Leon is supported by the talent of its people. In their everyday work, in their character and determination to face the challenges and turn them into opportunities of progress and of a better quality of life. We are hard working people”, said the Governor in a ceremony where he was next to the Mayor of the City of Leon, Hector Lopez Santillana.

Rodríguez Vallejo also recalled those who were here before us, those who worked the land and said that with their effort they created the industry of skin and shoes, which is today one of our emblems.

“With our work of everyday, we maintain Leon as the world capital of shoes, but we also made it the ideal destination for events of international quality and for the business tourism. On each and every day we live the slogan of our city: Work beats everything”, said the Governor.
