They arrived from Northern California to be precise, from the South, from the city of Purisima del Rincon, from rural communities, and from the parish itself. This afternoon, the “Judios” (Jews) took to the streets, announcing that the traitor who sells Jesus is among the crowd. Thus began La Judea 2026 in its 153rd anniversary.

Families from San Francisco del Rincon attended to witness the start. Meanwhile, locals reserved their spots on benches, sidewalks, or planters, waiting for the rushing mob to arrive.

Roberto Garcia Urbano, the Mayor of Purisima del Rincon, met with the Judios prior to their 3:00 PM departure from the House of Culture. The members of La Judea, already dressed in masks, vibrant colored robes, leather sandals (huaraches), let out the traditional cry “uuuuuuu!” while firmly grasping their staffs, marched out in order to the rhythm set by the soldiers.

“The date has arrived once again; the eyes of the world are once again upon our Municipality, attentive to every activity in the representation that each of you will give to the greatness we inherited from Hermenegildo Bustos. Everyone will be expectant; it is a great responsibility. We are going to give this tradition the importance it deserves, taking to the streets with great accountability, as it is the most important tradition of Purisima del Rincon in Mexico,” said Garcia Urbano.
Juan Estrada, known as “El Japo,” was clear: if it was not celebrated in Oxnard (California), “you have to come to the original Judea, in its land of origin.”

The drums were tuned, and the march began punctually. Some followers watched them depart from the House of Culture, while many others ran alongside them through different streets.

At 3:44 PM, they signaled their first presence in the city center, continuing through more streets to announce across various settings that La Judea, in its 153rd edition, is alive.

After 5:00 PM, they once again sent boys and girls running from one side to the other, as the children tried to find the safest spot away from the whips of the “Diablos” (Devils).
