With the inhabitants and the City Council, Juan Jose Alvarez Brunel, Secretary of Tourism of Guanajuato, and Roberto Garcia Urbano, Mayor of Purisima del Rincon, unveiled the commemorative plaque for the “Best Tourism Villages” emblem awarded by the World Tourism Organization. Tourism -WTO- to the Magical Town of Jalpa de Canovas.
“Best Tourism Villages” is an initiative that recognizes villages that constitute notable examples of rural tourism destinations with recognized cultural and natural values that preserve and promote rural and community values, products and lifestyle, that maintain, by promoting tourism as one of the drivers of rural development and the well-being of communities, a commitment to sustainability in its three spheres: economic, social and environmental.
This achievement was applauded by Alvarez Brunel, who recognized Jalpa de Canovas, named Pueblo Magico de Guanajuato on November 29, 2012, as a destination that has grown in a clear, orderly and precise manner.
“This recognition is the greatest prize that can be found in a community. In this administration we have been able to discern together with the Magical Towns committees and give recognition to these destinations to highlight the importance they have for tourism, the community, the economy, and social integration, which is the most relevant”, said the Secretary of Tourism.
Last October, at the 25th General Assembly of the World Tourism Organization, in Samarkand in Uzbekistan, Mayor of Purisima del Rincon received this award from Zurab Pololikashvili, Secretary General of the Organization World Tourism Organization -UNWTO-.
This international distinction highlights the attributes and joint work of the State Government, Municipality and inhabitants, on issues of sustainability, infrastructure, connectivity, promotion, conservation of cultural and natural heritage, tourism development, innovation, integration of the value chain, health, safety, governance and prioritization of tourism.
During the unveiling, the Secretary of Tourism emphasized the Sustainability Model program -the only one of its kind in Mexico- that will be enforced in the Magical Towns of the State, in order to continue safeguarding the heritage and natural biodiversity.
“We promote tourism with the creation of the tourist corridor from the City of Purisima del Rincon to Jalpa de Canovas, and more things are coming for tourism because we have it in our municipal work plan, and it will be reflected in the minds of the people of Jalpa”, said Mayor Roberto Garcia Urbano.
“Purisima del Rincon has to be recognized by tourists because it is an activity that generates development and growth in the economy of the destination”, said Garcia Urbano.
This celebration included the planting of a 3-meter oak tree at the Living Museum of Native Trees.
