The State Institute of Training (IECA) and BJXMODA presented the results of the second edition of the Moda In program, an initiative that strengthens the local design, garment, and supply ecosystem through specialized training, professionalization, and support for Guanajuatense entrepreneurs.

In this edition, more than 70 people dedicated to design participated in a training process where they received more than 35 hours of technical training in design, pattern making, sewing, production and development of creative ventures, taught by specialists from IECA.

The Director General of the State Training Institute, Salomón Ceballos Ochoa, noted that this effort is part of the vision of the People’s Government, led by Governor Libia Dennise Garcia Munoz Ledo, which promotes programs that generate jobs, strengthen the regional economy and open opportunities for the people of Guanajuato to turn their talent into productive projects.

“Right here at the Leon campus, we have a design center planned, and we are seeking support from different institutions to have an exhibition center within this campus, a center where they can display all their fashion, footwear, and garment designs. That’s what is coming next year; but we are also looking to have a third call for entries for a third edition of Moda In,” said the general director of IECA.

Ceballos said that the third edition aims to benefit 80 people, including designers, seamstresses, and artisans, and that more municipalities will join.

The winner of the second edition of Moda In, Julia Fernandez, presented her collection “Indigo 1888”, inspired by the strength, identity and resilience of the people of Leon after the great flood of 1888. The collection was made 100% with local labor, involving seamstresses, artisans and workshops from the region.

“It was an experience that encompassed the entire value chain, from visiting other municipalities and connecting with more people. We worked with San Jose Iturbide, Salamanca, and other, so fashion isn’t at odds with the people, with the public. Every product we consume is part of our essence, our identity; identity and culture aren’t at odds,” said Julia Fernandez, winner of Moda In.

Moda In also stands out for its social impact: it integrates women seamstresses and artisans trained by IECA, who find in these projects an opportunity for professionalization, income and recognition of the value of their work.

The event was supported by the Secretary of Economy, the Secretary of Tourism and Identity, the Secretary of Culture, and the municipal governments of Purisima del Rincon, Leon, Irapuato, Silao, San Francisco del Rincon, Jerecuaro, and Coroneo. CANAIVE Guanajuato, CICEG, and several universities also participated.
