Dr. Fátima Melchor Márquez, head of State Epidemiology, declared that no case has yet been detected in Guanajuato, however, she said that this international emergency is a declaration that marks the strengthening of epidemiological surveillance and case detection to prevent spread.
The Guanajuato Health System, said the epidemiologist maintains a close watch over the epidemiological panorama of monkeypox in Guanajuato, after it was declared an international emergency by the World Health Organization due to its spread in several countries.
In Guanajuato, said the epidemiologist staff has already trained on the detection in people and said that the strategy is to be alert and vigilant as the spread of this new disease evolves.
If a case is confirmed a sample will be collected and sent to Mexico City to the National Institute of Epidemiological Reference, later an investigation of the case and its contacts would be made.
- If a contagion is registered the person infected should isolate and should come to get medical service to receive timely care when symptoms appear.
Watch for symptoms
In the first symptoms, a sudden increase in temperature is recorded, on the third and/or fourth day a rash appears on the body, which generally begins on the face, spreading throughout the body with swelling of the nodes or pimples, and a general discomfort.
- The illness is spread by direct contact with the patient and manipulation of the blisters with secretions, the contagion mechanism of this disease is similar to smallpox.
Although no case has been detected in Guanajuato, Dr. Fatima Melchor invited Guanajuato residents to follow the prevention practices already used by people against Covid, such as the use of face masks, maintaining a healthy distance, frequent hand washing with soap and water, in addition to not sharing objects of common use.
