Gto Health System exceeds one million doses of influenza applied
Guanajuato/Gto News
Guanajuato exceeded one million influenza vaccines administered since October for this 2023-2024 season.
The Secretary of Health, Daniel Diaz Martinez, announced that one million 87,191 doses have been applied, representing an application progress of 65.15%.
The goal for this winter season is to apply one million 668 thousand 648 doses specifically for the State’s target groups.
Influenza is a viral respiratory illness, similar to a flu, that is spread from person to person through droplets expelled when coughing, sneezing and talking.
Diaz added that the most effective way to prevent influenza is vaccination in the main risk groups and these groups are being vaccinated:
- Children under 5 years old
- Pregnant women
- Older adults
- People with chronic diseases such as diabetes, hypertension, obesity, HIV, cardiovascular disease, lung disease or cancer
Other actions to avoid contagion is to adopt the following recommendations:
- Wash your hands frequently
- When coughing or sneezing, cover your nose and mouth with your forearm or a disposable tissue
- Keep surfaces and your children’s toys clean
- Ventilate rooms
Also stay alert for symptoms:
- Fever higher than 38 °C
- Cough
- Headache, muscle and joint pain
- Congestion and runny nose
- General discomfort
What is most important is not to self-medicate and go to the nearest health unit, a doctor will indicate the appropriate treatment if the diagnosis is confirmed.
