The circular economy is the fundamental path to a more sustainable state. Promoting economic efficiency, towards the mitigation of environmental impacts, allows us to promote innovation and the construction of a more equitable and respectful future for the planet.
This was expressed by the head of the Ministry of Environment and Territorial Planning -SMAOT-, Maria Isabel Ortiz Mantilla during the closing of activities of the project “Resource Efficiency and Climate Action Initiative -IREK-”, held by the Government of Guanajuato and the German Agency for Development Cooperation Abroad -GIZ- and the State Training Institute -IECA-.
Through panels led by experts in the field, the actions carried out since 2017 when this alliance began, in which actions from studies, public policy instruments, projects, forums and training were closed.
For Guanajuato, the transition to the Circular Economy and the efficient use of resources represents an alternative to take on global challenges such as climate change, the loss of biodiversity and pollution.
The workshops aimed to:
- Strengthen the capacities of small and medium-sized companies to identify measures that promote the efficient use of their resources
- Support the promotion of international dialogue and cooperation processes regarding the efficient use of resources and climate action
This collaborative work was achieved with the participation of the State Training Institute -IECA-, jointly offering 10 training workshops, achieving the participation of more than 400 representatives of MSMEs.
Participants are from sectors like:
- Construction, leather and footwear, automotive, agroindustrial, manufacturing and chemical; as well as State public officials and special disposal waste management service providers
The courses taught have official validity, so once the participants completed the program of activities, they received their certificate that endorses them with the knowledge, abilities, skills and attitudes acquired.
During this cooperation, the Secretary of Sustainable Economic Development -SDES- and the SMAOT developed a strategy for a Circular Guanajuato 2050, establishing the bases for a vision that allows the State to advance towards a circular economy model.
