In the last three decades, Guanajuato has substantially changed and reconfigured its demographic composition and today it is an attractive State for the country and the world.
Juan Hernández, Secretary for Migrants and International Liaison, said that this is due to the dynamics of economic growth that Guanajuato has experienced, going from being an agricultural entity to a completely diversified entity that generates opportunities.
“Today, for example, we are a benchmark in the automotive and manufacturing industry at a national and international level. But also because we promote the hospitality of Guanajuato through the organization of festivals and cultural events in which the different international communities that are located in the state participate”, said Hernandez.
The Secretary said that the contribution made by the international community to Guanajuato, generated a boost to the entity, in the areas:
- Economic, social, cultural and educational
Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) went from:
- 2 thousand 700 million dollars, in the 90’s
- to 16 thousand 711 million dollars in the period from 2011 to 2021
Hernandez said that the assignment of the governor, Diego Sinhue Rodriguez Vallejo, is to work transversally, not only at the municipal, state or national level, but also at the global level, for which efforts are coordinated to be the link that connects the different secretaries. and/or institutions with their peers in other countries.
“All this is thanks to the fact that foreigners who visit our state trust in the development that we have generated throughout these three decades and Foreign Direct Investment is reflected in the growth of the manufacturing sector, which is positioned as the second engine of the economy of Guanajuato”, said Hernandez.
The head of the SMEI said that the main trade partners of Guanajuato are:
- The US, Japan, Spain, Germany, Italy and Canada
That is why hospitality and interculturality are encouraged to strengthen the ties of friendship with these countries and establish networks of cities with organizations in the world to catapult the cooperation of public policies that contribute to social cohesion.
In addition, he said, a work agenda divided into four parts is carried out:
- Meeting international communities
- Cultural exchange
- Work tables to promote projects
- Analysis of migration issues
A series of virtual forums called “Guanajuatenses around the world” was also launched to meet the young people of our entity that stand out in other countries and the participation of international citizens in the “Festival of Nations”, within the State Fair of Leon.
In figures:
- In 1990, according to INEGI, in Guanajuato there were 9 thousand 906 people born abroad
- In 2000 there were a total of 18 thousand 808 people
- In 2010 there were 39,207 people
- In 2020 there were already 42,486 foreigners living in Guanajuato
There are currently 19 International Communities in Guanajuato from countries such as:
- Venezuela, United States, Japan, Germany, Chile, Algeria, Colombia, Brazil, Spain, Russia, Cuba, Bolivia, Morocco, Poland, Peru, Pakistan, Turkey, Ukraine and Egypt
