“Guanajuato will continue to be an attractive epicenter for the manufacturing industry in the face of the new U.S. tariff policy,” said Governor Libia Dennise Garcia Munoz Ledo during the broadcast of the program Connecting with the People.

In an open discussion on upcoming trade challenges, the Governor met with the Secretary of Economy, Claudia Cristina Villasenor Aguilar, and the head of the Coordinator for the Promotion of Foreign Trade (COFOCE), Luis Ernesto Rojas Avila, to discuss the implications of the new tariffs imposed by the United States and their impact on the Mexican economy, especially on Guanajuato’s productive sectors.

“We know that Guanajuato has a significant export potential, but we are also aware that the tariffs imposed by the United States raise many questions and uncertainties, especially in the productive sector. Today, more than ever, we need to work together to face this challenge,” said the Governor.

The automotive industry is one of Guanajuato’s most important sectors, with a strong presence of international companies and a value chain that spans from manufacturing to export. The Governor emphasized that, despite the challenges, Guanajuato remains a benchmark, and the automakers operating in the State have reaffirmed their commitment to Guanajuato.

“Guanajuato has the most dynamic automotive cluster in Latin America, and this industry will continue to be a key pillar of our economy. We will not allow tariffs to hold us back, and we will continue to look for ways to ensure our companies remain internationally competitive,” said the Governor.

In response to the new tariff policies, the People’s Government consolidated four strategic initiatives to strengthen and promote exports from Guanajuato’s manufacturing industry.

Macro Axis:

  • The macro axis focuses on coordination with federal authorities, as well as with the private sector, especially with automobile manufacturers operating in Guanajuato.

Micro Axis:

  • In the micro area, work has been done to create incentives for small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), providing them with financing, training, and business strengthening to ensure their competitiveness in both the national and international markets.

Social Axis:

  • At the social level, the strategy has focused on economic inclusion, productive coordination, and the promotion of local consumption. The Marca Guanajuato project is a clear example of this effort, which seeks to consolidate local identity and products as symbols of quality, supporting entrepreneurs, youth, small producers, and municipalities.

SME Axis:

  • The SME axis aims to create a favorable environment for the development of small businesses that export products and services. In this context, the important role played by exporting SMEs is highlighted. They have not only been an essential part of the State’s economy but have also become the engine of growth in key sectors such as automotive, agroindustry, plastics, and fashion.

The Government of Guanajuato is also promoting the use of clean energy as a key source for industrial sustainability, with investments in solar and other renewable energy sources that will allow Guanajuato companies to access cheaper and more efficient energy.
