A total of 148 elementary and secondary school students were recognized by the Guanajuato Education Secretary (SEG) for their outstanding participation in academic competitions in STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics) areas in the 2024–2025 school year.

The award winners shone in competitions such as the 3rd State Science Competition, the Computer Science Olympiad, the Math Olympiad, and the FIRST LEGO League Robotics Tournament, establishing themselves as icons of Guanajuato student talent.

José Antonio Vega Sanchez expressed his gratitude for being considered for this recognition and for the projects he has been able to participate in, as well as for the support he has received. He shared his experience participating in these competitions and Olympiads and promised to put his heart and soul into the upcoming National Math Olympiad in September, where he will proudly represent his school, municipality, and the state of Guanajuato.

During the ceremony, Christian Mauricio Munoz Garcia, Director General for the Comprehensive Development of the Educational Community, congratulated the students: “All the skills you are learning—teamwork, problem-solving, strategic thinking—are essential today. We at the Ministry of Education are very proud of you.”

The event included an interactive educational experience with nine STEAM booths where families participated in activities such as the Science Lottery, Stairs of Knowledge, Logic Challenges, Speed Races, and LED Screen Battles, among other fun and educational activities.

The Director General of Basic Education, Esmeralda Imelda Barquera Arteaga, encouraged the students to continue cultivating their intellectual curiosity: “That passion for knowledge will be your greatest driving force. You represent the seed of a brighter future for Mexico.”

One of the most applauded announcements was that of Ernesto Lugo Ledezma, director of the TecNM Celaya campus, who offered direct admission to the winners of STEM competitions. “Seeing their energy, creativity, and thirst for learning fills us with hope,” he said.

Valentina Munoz Porras, coordinator of the Center for Mathematics Research (CIMAT), emphasized the importance of fostering scientific vocations from an early age: “The knowledge they acquire today, beyond the awards, will open doors and opportunities for them throughout their lives.”

With this recognition, the SEG reaffirms its commitment to promoting scientific and technological competencies, essential for the educational transformation of Guanajuato, and strengthens its commitment to the talent that will build the future of the state and the country.
