“We live in a state that is an icon of the history and development of our country; Mexico would not be understood without Guanajuato and Guanajuato would not be understood without Mexico”, said the Governor of Guanajuato, Diego Sinhue Rodríguez Vallejo, in the Commemoration of the 200 years of the Formal Adhesion of Guanajuato to Mexican Federalism.
“I invite you to reaffirm our commitment to federalism, to freedom, to democracy, to respect for our institutions, to the sovereignty of the State and Municipal autonomy”, said the Governor.
In the Solemn Session of the Formal Adhesion of the State of Guanajuato to Mexican Federalism held by the LXV Legislature of the State Congress, the Governor attended as a guest of honor where he recalled that Guanajuato was one of the first states to adhere to the Federal Pact and highlighted that the State is the Cradle of Independence and the Cradle of Federalism.
“Today is a day of celebration, today it is an honor to share this space with the Legislative Power and the Judicial Power, because we are commemorating much of our reason to be, we are remembering history and, we are refreshing our federalist convictions,” said the Governor.
On January 31, 1824, the Constitutive Act of the Mexican Federation was signed, which gave legal certainty to the process of making Mexico a Federal Republic.
This act established the bases for a government that would adopt the form of an independent nation and as a federal popular representative republic, the member States would be independent, free and sovereign in their administration and internal government.
Thus, Guanajuato formed a federation as part of the United Mexican States.
With the Act, the division of Powers was positioned as a form of government and laid the foundations for what would later be the first Political Constitution of the United Mexican States.
“In Guanajuato we believe in freedom, justice and democracy; we believe in the separation of powers and the autonomy of each of those powers; we believe in the value of institutions and seek to perfect them; we believe in teamwork and collaboration between Public Powers, all with in order to benefit people,” said the Governor.
Today the commitment of governments, said Rodriguez Vallejo, is to preserve this legacy and turn it into an instrument of society for the development and progress of Mexican people and families.
The President of the State Congress, Victor Manuel Zanella Huerta, said that this celebration is a tribute to the plurality and treasures of Guanajuato, and that it is not only a reminder of what has been achieved, but also invites us to strengthen the Powers in a free Mexico where everyone is heard.
“Today we commemorate the day in which we decided to form a great country, we understood that alone we can achieve little, but together we can go further; knowing where we come from and where we are is important to know where we have to go,” said the Legislator.
The President of the Supreme Court of Justice and the Judicial Power Council of the State of Guanajuato, Héctor Tinajero Muñoz, was also present at the event; representatives of the congresses of Michoacán, Quintana Roo and Zacatecas, as well as Deputies members of the LXV Legislature of the Congress of the State of Guanajuato.
