“Today, in this Government of the People, we reaffirm our commitment to continue this extraordinary relationship of friendship of Guanajuato and Hiroshima and take it to the next level”, said the Governor of the State of Guanajuato, Libia Dennise Garcia Munoz Ledo, as she signed, with the Governor of the Prefecture of Hiroshima, Hidehiko Yuzaki, the Declaration of Adhesion of the Friendship Association of both entities.
With Hiroshima, we will continue to promote new cooperation and development projects in many other areas, besides sports, education, culture and tourism, said the Governor.
“I am very proud to be part of such a strong and authentic friendship, like the one between Hiroshima and Guanajuato. It is a sincere friendship, which has its strength in the heart, in collaboration, in cooperation, in work, in the well-being and in the progress of both regions,” said Libia Dennise.
The Governor noted that this has been a decade in which both States have been able to get to know each other better and find ways to become stronger and more united through this collaboration.
“And we have done well, because there are good results. For example, the Japanese community in Guanajuato has grown significantly, and today there are more than 2,100 residents in our State,” said Libia.
But what is most important is that they preserve their culture and at the same time integrate into ours, showing respect for both countries, said Libia.
The Governor said that the Consulate General of Japan was opened in Leon, serving six states in the center of Mexico. The presence of Japanese companies in Guanajuato has increased, many of them from Hiroshima, although also from other parts of Japan; today there are 144 companies that generate more than 47 thousand jobs for Guanajuato families.
“And that is very important in this new beginning of the Government of the People. Because we want the people of our State to have more and better opportunities to get ahead. In this decade, Hiroshima and Guanajuato have had an intense academic exchange for the benefit of our youth,” noted the Governor.
The same goes for cultural themes with exhibitions and festivals, especially the Hiroshima Flower Festival and our International Cervantino Festival, added Libia Dennise.
“And just as we have done with Hiroshima, sending our young people in exchanges with their universities, we want more students to have these opportunities. Guanajuato has made its way in the world; and alliances like this one with Hiroshima encourage us to continue forward,” said Libia Dennise.
