“It is my pride, as a Leonese, to know that you are doing works with a great social and environmental sense,” said Governor of Guanajuato, Diego Sinhue Rodriguez Vallejo, after the laying of the cornerstone of what will soon be the Oriente El Potrero Metropolitan Park.
To provide more natural spaces for recreation and lungs for the city, three new parks will be built with family spaces that will bring environmental, social, cultural and health benefits for the inhabitants of this city and visitors.
“This will be a project that transcends administrations and generations; it is having a long-term vision of a sustainable city, and I want to recognize Alejandra Gutierrez as one of the Mayors who is most committed to protecting the environment”, said the Governor.
“We come to make a team and an alliance for the citizens, so that they know that Guanajuato, in the Governor, has an ally,” said Rodriguez Vallejo.
He said that the benefits of this work will be too many because there is no park of this type and size in the City, and as a social benefit it will offer service to three polygons in the area.
In the cultural aspect, part of the hacienda and an archaeological zone with vestiges from the year 200 BC to 1000 AD will be recovered and the sense of identity will be strengthened by knowing the historical roots of Leon.
In education, the Governor commented that the park will promote environmental, cultural and civic knowledge for the new space; while for health, he said that this new park will promote sports and physical activity.
The Governor said that in Guanajuato there is concern and occupation for the environment, he said that 29% of the Guanajuato territory is destined for protected natural areas where 80% of the fauna in Guanajuato lives, making of Guanajuato the only state in the Country with greater diversity of birds, therefore, it is necessary that all citizens do the same to preserve protected natural areas.
He recognized that Mayor of Leon, Alejandra Gutierrez Campos, is one of the authorities with the greatest interest in the environment and endorsed the support from the State Government to team up and make alliances with citizens for projects such as the El Potrero Metropolitan Park.
Mayor of Leon, Alejandra Gutierrez Campos, said that this park will be built on 74.4 hectares, including an archaeological zone dating from 200 BC. and the El Salto dam; it will directly benefit more than 257,000 people who live in the nearby 5 kilometers.
