In Connecting with the People, the Governor presented the support and services of the MIGRANTEQUIERO Plan to accompany the people of Guanajuato in the United States, at the border and in their return to the State

Guanajuato/Gto News

In a new broadcast of the program Connecting with the People, the Governor of Guanajuato, Libia Dennise Garcia Munoz Ledo, presented the comprehensive support and actions that the State Government has implemented to assist Guanajuatense migrants returning to the country.

“For Guanajuato, it has always been a priority to serve Guanajuatenses who are in the United States, and now with the tightening of immigration policies, we decided to integrate the MIGRANTEQUIERO Program,” said the Governor of the People.

With Liz Alejandra Esparza Frausto, Secretary of Human Rights; Marcela Rueda Luna, Head of the Guanajuato Office of the National Migration Institute (INAMI); and Juan Bernardo Candanoza Soto, a returned migrant and beneficiary of the MIGRANTEQUIERO program, the Governor emphasized that the People’s Government is working to ensure that no returning Guanajuato is left without support.

MIGRANTEQUIERO Plan: assistance in the United States, the border, and Guanajuato

The People’s Governor explained that the State has an Assisted Return Plan, which operates in three key moments:

  • 1) In the United States, through the four Liaison Offices located in Los Angeles, Chicago, Atlanta and San Antonio, the State Government provides: legal advice and information on immigration matters; acts as a link with the legal structure of the Mexican Consulates for cases of possible deportation; facilitates communication with family members in Guanajuato
  • 2) At the border, in coordination with the Federal Government, migratory movement is monitored and support is provided for the return by land from the border to the communities of origin in Guanajuato
  • 3) Once in Guanajuato, returned migrants receive support to rebuild their lives, including: recovering their identity documents; facilitating opportunities for labor insertion; providing them with health services; delivering support for their families and giving them access to studies

As of November 19, Guanajuato has provided:

  • 1,142 services to migrants
  • 268 correspond to Guanajuatenses in situations of possible deportation served at the Liaison Offices in the USA
  • 874 more are migrants returned to the State, including 82 children and adolescents who are already receiving basic education

During the broadcast, Juan Bernardo Candanoza, originally from Comonfort, shared his experience after being detained in Eagle Pass, Texas, and his unexpected return to the State.

Through the MIGRANTEQUIERO program, Juan started a productive food sales project, receiving equipment that allowed him to start immediately.

Migrant Caravan 2025:

As happens every December, thousands of migrants organize to return to Mexico in the Migrant Caravan, with the meeting point in Nuevo Laredo, Tamaulipas.

This year, said Libia Dennise, the participation of more than 4,500 vehicles is expected, of which between 450 and 500 will arrive in Guanajuato.

The People’s Government will accompany the caravan with: personnel of the Government Secretary and the Human Rights Secretary; an ambulance of SUEG and Public Security units.

December: Migrant Wills Month

For the first time, December will be considered the Month of the Will for Migrants, with the purpose of allowing Guanajuatenses who have returned to the State to complete this process at a low cost during their visit.
