Starting this month, the seven museums run by the State Institute of Culture will have free admission on Tuesdays, as a way to facilitate access to culture and increase knowledge of Guanajuato museums among the population.
The measure, which marks the adoption of the custom in the sector of having one day of free admission per week, was approved by the institution’s Board of Directors at its last ordinary meeting, held on August 27.
Free admission on Tuesdays will apply to five museums in Guanajuato City:
- Diego Rivera House Museum
- Museum of the People of Guanajuato
- Palace of Powers Museum
- Olga Costa – Jose Chavez Morado Art Museum
- Conde Rul Alar Collection of Chinese Art Museum
In Silao, admission will be free to the Jose and Tomas Chavez Morado Museum, as well as the Hermenegildo Bustos Museum, in Purisima del Rincon.
The main collections in most SIC museums are dedicated to the artists who give them their name and who at some point lived there, such as Diego Rivera, the Chavez Morado brothers or the married couple Olga Costa and Jose Chavez Morado.
The Guanajuato People’s Museum has distinctive collections of viceregal art, archaeology and miniature toys.
The Palace of Powers Museum preserves emblematic spaces from when it was the site of the State Congress, as well as a collection of paraphernalia from the 100th Anniversary of Mexico’s Independence.
The Conde Rul Alar Museum of Chinese Art, recently opened as a permanent home to a notable artistic collection from ancient China.
From Wednesday to Sunday, museums will have their regular admission costs:
- 30 pesos for the general public
- 15 pesos for students, teachers, people with disabilities and holders of the Guanajuato Contigo Si card
