During the celebrations for the Day of Flowers and the Friday of Dolores, the Governor of Guanajuato, Diego Sinhue Rodriguez Vallejo, participated in the ceremony where the “Distinguished Guanajuatense” award was granted by the Municipal Presidency of Guanajuato.
This is the highest distinction offered by the Municipality, headed by Alejandro Navarro Saldana, for citizens of recognized trajectory, integrity, honesty and who, with their social or professional public activities, managed to transcend in the history of Guanajuato.
“Today in this simple but significant Solemn Session, we pay tribute to all the people who have made this capital city the pride of Guanajuato and the Greatness of Mexico; we confirm our commitment to team up and work together so that this success story continues, for the good of the inhabitants of this Capital City”, said the Governor.
In the ‘Woman Category’, the teacher Elia Monica Morales Zarate was awarded, she is one of the 100 women inspired by mining; she was a professor in the Department of Mining Engineering, Metallurgy and Geology of the Engineering Division of the University of Guanajuato; she is the first woman elected president of the Association of Mining Engineers, Metallurgists and Geologists of Mexico AC, Guanajuato District, among other activities.
In the ‘Man Category’, the career of Architect J. Jesus Octavio Hernandez Diaz, born in Guanajuato in 1954, was recognized. During high school he was one of the founders of ‘La Rondalla Santa Fe of the University of Guanajuato’; he was a professor at the School of Architecture of the University of Guanajuato, later he was its Principal. He is currently President of the Guanajuato World Heritage Committee, AC.
In the ‘Post Mortem Category’, Doctor Salvador Diaz Berrio Fernandez was recognized, a pioneer in the restoration of heritage sites in the American Continent, he was of Spanish origin and became a Mexican national. He was formed as an Architect at the National School of Architecture of the UNAM; he did postgraduate studies in monument restoration in Rome and Madrid.
His time at the International Council of Monuments and Sites stands out, it is an organization that supports UNESCO to assess the files of countries that want to inscribe some patrimonial asset on the World Heritage list and it was precisely he who integrated the city of Guanajuato as Heritage Culture of Humanity.
