“The fire we renew today is not only symbolic, it is a flame that represents the dignity, the courage, the love we feel for our land and, above all, for our people,” said the Secretary of Security and Peace of Guanajuato, Juan Mauro Gonzalez Martinez, in the civic ceremony of renewal of the Symbolic Fire of Freedom, held on the esplanade of the Alhondiga de Granaditas.
The event dates back to December 20, 1823, when the fire that continues to burn today as a symbol of struggle and civic commitment was first lit. Federal, State, and Municipal authorities, as well as citizens, participated in this event, which the Secretary defined as “a reminder that freedom is not a chapter of the past, but a cause that is built every day.”
Gonzalez Martinez presented a summary of the results achieved since the implementation of the Operational Coordination strategy of the New Anti-Crime Intelligence Force (CONFIA): more than 131 million pesos were seized from organized crime in recovered merchandise, seized hydrocarbons, foiled extortions, and confiscated drugs.

- 42 perpetrators of violence captured
- 408 judicial and ministerial warrants executed
“In just 247 days, we have weakened organized crime with strategy, intelligence, and coordination,” said Gonzalez Martinez.
The Official also said that data isn’t everything: “It’s about protected lives, defended rights, and restored trust. And if history has taught us anything, it’s that great transformations aren’t born from fear and imposition; they’re born of a profound love for our roots, for our future, for those we love most.”
The secretary concluded by reaffirming the support of Governor Libia Dennise Garcia Munoz Ledo, who sent a message of recognition to the State’s security forces. “In Guanajuato, freedom is not forgotten, justice is not negotiable, and the love for our people is can´t be turned off,” he stated.
