“Guanajuato has always been a major player in the history, present, and future of Mexico. We are a State proud of its roots and with a vision of the future”, said Governor of Guanajuato, Diego Sinhue Rodriguez Vallejo.
The Governor led the ceremony to kick off the celebrations for the 200 years of Guanajuato as a Free and Sovereign State, after installing the State Commission for the celebrations.
“Mexico was born here. We were precursors of freedom and justice, initiators of the National Independence movement, in historical places like this magnificent Alhondiga de Granaditas”, said the Governor.
We are also the Cradle of Federalism, because Guanajuato was one of the first states that formed the Federation. After Independence in September 1821, and after a brief empire under Agustin de Iturbide, Mexico would become a Federal Republic made up of Free and Sovereign States, he said.
Rodriguez Vallejo recalled that in 1823 the Mexican Federation was founded based on the Constitutional Act, to which Guanajuato adhered on December 20, 1823, once again being the spearhead in the political development of our country.
“A few weeks later, on January 31, 1824, the Constitutive Act of the Mexican Federation, which gave legal formality to this founding act of Mexico, was proclaimed by the Sovereign Constituent Congress of the Nation. The federal pact and the republican government were born, the one we currently have”, said the Governor.
“Today the State Commission for Celebrations for the 200 years of Guanajuato as a Free and Sovereign Federative Entity has been installed. This Commission will be in charge of coordinating the efforts of public powers, autonomous organizations and state municipalities, as well as federal authorities and civil society organizations, to celebrate these historic events”, said the Governor.
Rodriguez Vallejo explained that this celebration will be carried out with artistic, educational, civic-democratic, cultural events and popular festivals.
“We want to generate a greater civic awareness among citizens and strengthen their pride as Guanajuatenses. From now on, a great effort begins from all sectors of the State, to worthily commemorate this event”, said the Governor.
He stressed that it will be a period of celebrations that runs from June 2023 to June 2024.
The dates of key historical events are:
- 200 years of the proclamation of Guanajuato as a free and sovereign state, on December 20, 2023.
- 200 years of the proclamation of the Constitutive Act of the Mexican Federation and formal adherence of the State to federalism, on January 31, 2024.
- 200 years of the legitimate installation of the first Constituent Congress of Guanajuato, on March 25, 2024.
- 200 years of the Protest of the first Constitutional Governor, on May 10, 2024.
- 200 years of the creation of the Supreme Court of Justice of the State, on June 28, 2024.
“We want every Guanajuatense to feel proud of our history,” said the Governor.
