The book Camino Real Tierra Adentro -CRTA- through Guanajuato, one of the 4 copies of the “Guanajuato Lives Great Stories” Collection, was presented this afternoon at the Palacio de los Poderes Museum, in Guanajuato Capital.
This issue was published by the Government of Guanajuato, through the Ministry of Tourism, and written by chroniclers, archaeologists, historians, architects, restorers, specialists in cultural tourism, geographers, ethnohistorian cartographers, topographers, cultural managers, writers and photographers, all from different institutions and latitudes.
Juan José Álvarez Brunel, Secretary of Tourism of Guanajuato, accompanied by Adriana Camarena de Obeso, director of the Guanajuato State Institute of Culture; and other Officials of the culture sector of Guanajuato, narrated the content of this issue that, for the first time, brings together a series of studies that proposes a comprehensive and multidisciplinary vision of the CRTA.
Since this publication was conceived, its main objective was to value a series of unpublished and specialized studies of the also recognized “Camino de la Plata”, which was registered in 2010 as a Cultural Heritage of Humanity by UNESCO, including 70 sites that are located in 1,400 of the 2,600 kilometers that this route covers in total.
In force between the 16th and 19th centuries, this road was essential to transport the silver extracted from the mines of Zacatecas, Guanajuato, and San Luis Potosí, as well as the mercury imported from Europe.
Although its origin, construction, and use are linked to mining, the CRTA also fostered the development of livestock, agriculture, major and minor manufacturing, and trade at different scales, as well as social, cultural, artistic, and ideological ties. between European, Hispanic and American cultures.
This road involves 7 municipalities of Guanajuato:
- San Felipe, Ocampo, Dolores Hidalgo CIN, San Luis de la Paz, Comonfort, Guanajuato capital and San Miguel de Allende
All destinations where there are cattle ranches, bridges, cobblestones and dams, a very important that offers the possibility of having a narrative of the Camino Real.
SECTUR, since 2021, undertook the task of georeferencing this path of great conquests and rebellions for the defense of their lands, where the Chichimeca War and the Spanish Conquest stand out, as well as the creation of the first mayors in the territory.
The Secretary of Tourism clarified that this book is not for sale; however, it is available in a digital versión.
