Guanajuatense companies like OKUMÉ leap into the global market, demonstrating the power of business meetings and the vision of the People’s Government through COFOCE

Leon/Gto News

Guanajuato continues to consolidate its position as a strategic bridge between local entrepreneurs and international markets. With the support of the People’s Government and the leadership of COFOCE, more than 500 attendees, including businesspeople, entrepreneurs, and academics, participated in a major event that made one thing clear: exporting changes your life .

In an atmosphere of collaboration and global vision, more than 300 business meetings were held with international buyers, bringing together more than 20 buyers from the United States, Colombia, Costa Rica, and Guatemala. More than 160 Guanajuatense micro, small, and medium-sized companies from sectors such as fashion, agriculture, crafts, and various industries had the opportunity to meet face-to-face with these buyers, opening up new opportunities for growth and expansion. The results project sales of $6.8 million.

“This event is the first format we have carried out, Export Changes Your Life, where the leadership of our Governor Libia Dennise Garcia Munoz Ledo, has asked us to give a more human sense to exports, not only in the macroeconomic area, but to know how the lives of all the people who are in the companies and their communities, their ecosystem, are transformed,” said Luis Rojas Avila, Director of COFOCE.

As part of the recognition of the new generations of exporting companies, five Guanajuatense companies were recognized for taking firm steps to position themselves in the international market, as an example of what is possible when working with a clear strategy and the right support.

One of the most inspiring cases was that of OKUMÉ Amor in the form of crafts (Love in the Form of Crafts), a Guanajuato-based SME that, thanks to its participation, managed to complete its first export to the United States, placing its product in more than 43 stores. This case demonstrates how the platforms promoted by COFOCE are opening real and measurable paths for businesses in Guanajuato.

From the waste, at OKUMe they began creating pieces of art that convey Mexican culture, transforming what was once waste into products with social and cultural value.

“The appointment was made, and the pieces we brought as samples were primarily religious themes. They placed an order for 600 pieces, and I was surprised because it’s a very meticulous job. I said, ‘600 pieces?’ And they replied, ‘Yes, 600 pieces for Mother’s Day.’ This order is for a chain of stores in the United States, focused on the Mexican community through nostalgia,” said Adriana Alvarez, entrepreneur of OKUMÉ.

Trade Mission to Texas

As part of the company’s internationalization and value chain strengthening strategy, a trade mission was conducted in Texas with the goal of building relationships with international buyers, distributors, and marketers. This initiative had an impact in cities such as Houston, San Antonio, and McAllen.

A total of 37 Guanajuatense companies participated in this mission, from municipalities such as Leon, Celaya, Irapuato, San Miguel de Allende, Acambaro, Silao, and other from different industrial sectors of Guanajuato.

The results include contacts with distributors in the United States, strengthening strategic alliances, and opening up real opportunities for MSMEs.

New distribution models were also developed in collaboration with migrant entrepreneurs in the United States, creating bridges of opportunity that transcend borders.

“What is important is to first express my gratitude for the efforts COFOCE makes to enable Guanajuatense companies to access foreign markets and promote their products abroad,” said businessman Adrian Macouzet.
