In a show of solidarity and commitment, education authorities, school staff, parents, and community volunteers joined the rehabilitation work at the Miguel Hidalgo Elementary School, in San Pedro de Ibarra, after the Las Golondrinas dam overflowed and affected its facilities over the weekend.

Following Governor Libia Dennise Garcia Munoz Ledo’s instructions to provide close and immediate assistance to families affected by rains, Regional Education Delegate I, Armando Rangel Hernandez, visited the school to coordinate actions to restore education services.

With the support of the school’s management and teaching staff, as well as the collaboration of the SEG Volunteer Group, SNTE personnel, municipal crews, and families of the community, cleaning, debris removal, and disinfection of spaces are being carried out. These actions will allow classes to resume in a safe environment for children.
“The goal is clear: for our children to return to school soon in optimal conditions. Today more than ever, community solidarity and collaborative work make the difference,” the Delegate said during his tour of the school.

The State Government will continue to provide comprehensive support, through its various departments, to ensure educational continuity, safety, and the well-being of the entire school community.
As part of the collective effort, support staff from the community’s Telesecundaria and Telebachillerato schools, as well as colleagues from Regional Delegation I and the USAE (Education Units), have voluntarily joined the cleanup effort. They have also provided food service for volunteers and community members, a clear demonstration of their commitment to San Pedro de Ibarra.

The SEG Volunteer Program launched a food collection campaign, with collection centers set up in each USAE in Region I and in the Delegation itself, to channel direct aid to affected families.
The school’s principal, Julio Ivan Olivares, shared a message that reflects the difficult situation they are experiencing and the strength of the community.

“The community was severely affected, especially the families of our students. We suffered significant material losses, but fortunately, no human losses. Some students lost everything in their homes; we have tried to support them, visit them, and be close to them. This is a very united community, and we will move forward with enthusiasm, attitude, and strength,” said Olivares.

Cleaning crews will continue throughout the week, and the school is expected to be in optimal condition soon to welcome students back safely and with dignity.
These actions are part of the comprehensive response promoted by the Secretary of Education of Guanajuato, in coordination with State and Municipal Authorities, education institutions, unions, and civil society, to ensure that education continues and that the students communities feel the support of the People’s Government.
