Governor of the People, Libia Dennise Garcia Munoz Ledo, chaired the signing ceremony of the extension of the Agreement for the Adoption, by the Pirelli company, of an additional 100 hectares for the Conservation of the Protected Natural Area (ANP), Cuenca de la Esperanza, in the municipality of Guanajuato.
“It is a pleasure to join forces in favor of our natural resources. That is why, in Guanajuato, we feel very proud to have a great company like Pirelli de Mexico. A world-class company that generates employment and education and training opportunities for our youth and their families,” said the Governor.
Libia Dennise noted that Pirelli de México has extended this agreement for the conservation, care and restoration of the Cuenca de la Esperanza in the municipality of Guanajuato.
Pirelli will invest 4.1 million pesos in this new project. An investment that, in addition to the environmental benefits, means the creation of temporary employment for inhabitants of rural communities, said Libia.
Since 2013, Pirelli has demonstrated a strong commitment to the conservation of this protected natural area, starting with the adoption of 20 hectares and expanding its involvement in subsequent years.
By 2024, the company had adopted a total of just over 50 hectares, investing more than 1.6 million pesos in activities such as reforestation and maintenance of the area, the Governor recalled.
“Today we celebrate that, with this new agreement, conservation actions will be extended to an additional 100 hectares. Thank you very much for this great support. The actions include reforestation with native species; construction of ditches to retain water; installation of filter dams and maintenance of perimeter fences to protect the area,” said Libia.
Governor added that these measures will preserve biodiversity and improve the recharge of aquifers, ensuring quality water for the population.
La Esperanza dam is also located in the area, providing about 8 percent of the annual water consumption of the population of Guanajuato City, she said.
“Thanks again to Pirelli and its directors and partners for having this global vision, for carrying out actions to benefit the communities close to their company, and for thinking about our planet,” said the Governor.
