The Secretary of Health of Guanajuato recognizes the act of love and generosity of Damian, an 18-year-old young man from Victoria who donated his organs.
The heart was successfully procured at Dolores Hidalgo General Hospital and flown to the State of Nuevo Leon for immediate transplantation to a patient on the waiting list for this vital organ. While the liver was sent to the General Hospital of Mexico, both kidneys remained in Guanajuato for transplantation to two patients on the waiting list for this organ, one at the Regional Hospital of High Specialty and the other at the General Hospital of Leon.
Both corneas were transplanted at the T1 Clinic in Leon, all this was made possible thanks to the coordination of the State Transplant Center.
The young man, a few weeks before celebrating his 19th birthday, became a hero by giving life through organ donation after being diagnosed with head trauma from a motorcycle accident. Years back, Damian had made the firm decision to become a donor. Thanks to that decision and the generosity of his family, many patients now have a new chance at life.
“Damian’s gesture represents the greatest display of solidarity and love for other. His legacy will remain with each and every person who received this invaluable gift of life,” explained Health Secretary Gabriel Cortes Alcala.
