Authorities present the Comprehensive Care Strategy for the Brick Sector in Guanajuato, which offers five income alternatives to producers

The State Government provides brick producers and their families alternatives to diversify their income and improve their quality of life.
The Governor of Guanajuato, Diego Sinhue Rodriguez Vallejo, visited the community of Ladrilleras del Refugio to publicize the Comprehensive Care Strategy for the Brick Sector in Guanajuato, in order to move from the production of artisanal red brick to different alternatives.
“Today is a very important day for people in the brick sector, and for Guanajuatenses in general. From the dialogue, we have a vision of the future and a great social commitment”, said Rodriguez Vallejo.
“Together, we are going to take the step towards different alternatives that allow producers and their families to improve their health, diversify their activity and increase their income. With this strategy, we are applying innovative solutions so that families engaged in this activity have better expectations”, said the Governor.
It is a friendly strategy with the environment that will be permanent, with short, medium and long term actions and five alternatives.
One option is to make sustainable brick through the construction, training and commissioning of MK2 Kilns, which reduce polluting emissions by up to 70% and are validated by the Official Mexican Standard.
Tasks to be achieved:
- The Secretary of Sustainable Economic Development and Guanajuato Funds participate with the financing
- SMAOT and IDEA contribute resources from the Innovation Fund
- SICOM and SMAOT advise and supervise the construction process
- The Municipality supports the regularization of the lots and introduces urbanization and services
Another alternative is the manufacture of cement blocks; to achieves this the State Government signed an agreement with Cementos Mexicanos –CEMEX- to deliver equipment for the production of cement blocks; also to buy the production through its network of Construrama dealers.
This model allows producers, once trained, to manufacture up to 1,200 blocks per day, which allows them greater utility than they currently have with artisanal red brick. Authorities, producers and inhabitants have already witnessed a demonstration of the operation of a blocker.
Among the options for the inhabitants of the area, is to start a business. The State Government, through the SDES, will provide support for productive projects.
The strategy also includes the option of training to practice a trade; in coordination with the State Training Institute -IECA-. Training courses will be offered so that interested persons can acquire and develop new skills that will allow them to work on their own and generate income to take home.
The fifth alternative is to provide formal work for those who today are dedicated to the manufacture of bricks. The SDES, through the Employment Program, will offer them support to obtain a job in a company.
Through a Services Fair that was held in the Ladrilleras del Refugio soccer field, formal jobs were offered, information was given about training courses and the steps to obtain support to start a business.
“We are at the beginning of a new story, which will leave behind difficult decades. I want to tell you that in the state there are around 2,184 artisanal brick kilns, located in 38 municipalities. The brick problem is of that size, and the solution with innovation and teamwork is also that size, we will achieve it”, said the Governor.
