The State of Guanajuato “is already on the way to continue retaking its essence of local identity and pride of belonging,” said Jorge Moller, representative of the Global Sustainable Tourism Council (GSTC) Latin America and founder of the NGO Regenera.

At the most important sustainable and social tourism event in Ibero-America, “Sustainable & Social Tourism Summit”,held for the first time this year in Leon, Guanajuato, Jorge Moller highlighted that tourists come to the destination looking to learn about the history, culture, traditions and local cuisine.

“You have to educate and make the inhabitants see that the possibility of sustainable development in tourism is very real, and it has to do with not adopting models from other places; but to optimize their own methodology, their own feeling comfortable when sharing their home”, said the Chilean with more than 20 years of experience providing sustainable and authentic local experiences to local consumers in Chile and South America.

“Visitors want to eat the gastronomy of the place, listen to the history of the inhabitant, and taste its incredible and delicious wine. Guanajuato makes a truly delicious wine. That is what the traveler is looking for when arriving at a destination”, he reiterated.

Sustainable development, he said, is not for the visitors but for the inhabitants. By taking this model, the people of Guanajuato will live better, “and I, as a visitor, will benefit from it.”
