Almost two years after taking the helm of the State Public Health Institute, the Secretary of Health of Guanajuato, Gabriel Cortes Alcala, highlighted the work of 22,300 employees, who daily put their experience, training and human quality to the service of the population.

Thanks to this work, the Secretary of Health of Guanajuato strengthens its efforts to stay close to the population, with actions of prevention, health promotion and timely care, supported by a team committed to the well-being of Guanajuatense families.

“We have a highly trained staff, but with a human quality that is rarely seen in such an important group of people, who go out of their homes every day to take care of the health of Guanajuatenses,” said the Secretary of Health.
Cortes Alcala emphasized that the commitment to visit health centers to learn about the needs of the population, as well as the infrastructure conditions and the staff providing care, has been fulfilled.

Cortes explained that this approach allows for the identification of needs and the provision of tools to improve daily work, as well as strengthening the strategies that correspond to those responsible for the health sector.
In terms of prevention, Cortes noted the progress made in promoting healthy lifestyles, through actions that encourage proper nutrition, physical activity, regular medical check-ups and complete vaccination schedules.

One of the main challenges faced was measles; given the circulation of the virus in different states, Guanajuato promptly strengthened vaccination efforts to cover shortfalls and protect the population.
Through intensive brigades, unvaccinated people were located and campaigns were reinforced during December, January and February, successfully containing the presence of measles in the State during 2026.

Guanajuato registered nine cumulative cases of measles during 2026, while neighboring state reported significant circulation of the virus; it was with coverages above 95 percent that greater transmission was avoided.
The Secretary of Health also highlighted the preventive work against dengue, noting that the main strategy is not only fogging, but also house-to-house visits to identify and eliminate possible breeding grounds.
Finally, Cortes emphasized that these results are the product of daily and coordinated work, which is why Guanajuato maintains its national leadership in the control of diabetes and hypertension for the sixth consecutive year, strengthening its commitment to health.
