In order to evaluate proposals aimed at fostering inclusion across the State’s tourist destinations, including the installation of inclusive signage in public areas, the First Consultation Forum on Accessible Tourism was held in Jalpa de Canovas.

Opening the forum, Representative Miriam Reyes Carmona, President of the Tourism Commission, highlighted Guanajuato’s rich cultural and natural heritage, showcased in its World Heritage cities, Magic Towns, traditions, gastronomy, and local communities. Reyes noted that this heritage gains greater value when all individuals, without distinction, can explore, enjoy, and experience tourism on equal terms.

Reyes Carmona emphasized that for people with disabilities and their families, planning a trip often presents overlooked hurdles.
The lawmaker explained that visitors with visual impairments require information they can access independently; those with hearing impairments need suitable communication; and individuals with reduced mobility require spaces that allow for safe, dignified navigation.

Deputy Jesus Hernandez Hernandez, President of the Youth and Sports Commission said that the legislative initiative seeks to establish mandatory requirements for installing, maintaining, and updating accessibility elements. This will enable individuals with disabilities to enjoy tourist spots safely and autonomously.
Hernandez stressed that making Guanajuato an accessible destination is not only a matter of social justice and human rights, but also a strategic economic opportunity to broaden the region’s tourism offer.

Hernandez announced an initiative for five representative locations in Guanajuato:
- Mineral de Pozos
- San Miguel de Allende
- Jalpa de Canovas
- Leon
- Guanajuato City
Lawmaker Noemi Marquez Marquez praised the forum, noting that public engagement and shared experiences significantly strengthen legislative efforts.

Representative Aldo Ivan Marquez underscored the positive impact tourism brings to Magic Towns, municipalities, and the State, describing it as a driver for community development and a platform to project the cultural wealth of Guanajuato and Mexico.
Claudia Lorena Campos Delgado, Director of Tourism Sustainability at the Guanajuato State Secretary of Tourism and Identity, noted that accessibility must span every stage of the visitor journey, from initial information and transit to services, cultural sites, and destination activities.

Enriqueta Martinez Lopez highlighted that coordinated efforts among government bodies and institutions are vital to build inclusive municipalities where everyone enjoys equal access to public spaces and services.
In a third keynote address, Professor Elisa Jaime Rangel said that building a truly inclusive society requires far-reaching, continuous commitment, with a strong focus on education and human solidarity.

Finally, Roberto Garcia Urbano, Mayor of Purisima del Rincon, detailed local accessibility initiatives in Jalpa de Canovas, such as adding accessible routes and ramps harmoniously integrated into the town’s historic cobblestone streets.
Garcia Urbano noted that these structural adaptations allow wheelchair users, individuals with reduced mobility, and elderly residents and visitors to move around with greater safety, autonomy, and dignity.
