Guanajuato took an important step to strengthen its electrical infrastructure. Governor Libia Dennise Garcia Munoz Ledo and the Director General of the Federal Electricity Commission (CFE), Emilia Esther Calleja Alor, met with Mayors of Guanajuato to learn firsthand about the needs of each region and establish a coordination and follow-up plan.
Hearing firsthand what happens when there is a power outage in a community, neighborhood, business, or industry was the starting point of an unprecedented meeting between the Government of Guanajuato, the CFE, and municipal authorities.
“We are a State that is committed to investment, attracting new capital, and boosting our MSMEs, and an essential element for competitiveness is energy sufficiency. We are pleased that we can continue working together,” said Governor Libia Dennise.
The Governor highlighted that the dialogue allowed the CFE to hear firsthand the needs of the municipalities on issues such as continuity and quality of service, electrification, urban growth and new productive projects.
To follow up, the People’s Government designated the Secretary of Economy as liaison with the CFE, which will also collect the proposals from the municipalities to compile a state file and accompany each issue until its progress is known.
“We will be closely monitoring the requests from each municipality. In Guanajuato, we have demonstrated that teamwork is how we achieve results,” said the State Governor.
Director Emilia Calleja emphasized that this approach seeks to build a CFE closer to the territory, capable of understanding the needs directly of those who govern the municipalities and anticipating the growth of electricity demand.
“We need to know what is happening on the ground. You are the best barometer to know, not from behind a desk but close to the people, what the main problems are in each municipality,” said Calleja Alor.
During the meeting, CFE presented the main investment projects planned and under development to strengthen the generation, transmission and distribution capacity of energy in the state.
Among them is the Salamanca II Combined Cycle Power Plant project, which includes an estimated investment of 805 million dollars and an additional capacity of 457 megawatts, with completion planned for March 2030.
In terms of distribution, the plan presented by the CFE contemplates an accumulated investment of 2 billion 742 million pesos between 2025 and 2029, with new substations, expansions, modernization of networks and electrical coverage works.
In 2026 alone, 396 million pesos are allocated to distribution projects, including a new substation in León, capacity expansion in Irapuato, network modernization, and electrification actions, with an estimated reach for more than 242,000 inhabitants.
Another objective is to expand coverage. Guanajuato reached an electrification rate of 99.79 percent by the end of July, and CFE’s plan is to reach 99.99 percent by 2028, through conventional and alternative projects such as solar systems for areas where they are needed.
The Governor thanked the CFE’s director general and her team for their willingness to keep this communication channel open and reiterated that Guanajuato will provide institutional follow-up to each municipal proposal.
