The economy of Guanajuato is boosted through 12 strategic clusters that generate development, investment and employment

Guanajuato’s economic strength is built on a diversified economy, made up of 12 strategic clusters that drive productive activity, generate employment, strengthen value chains and make it possible for the State to compete in national and international markets.
Under the vision of the People’s Governor, Libia Dennise Garcia Munoz Ledo, the Government of Guanajuato is promoting a development strategy that strengthens the productive vocations of the regions, promotes innovation and creates conditions for companies from different sectors to grow, invest and generate new opportunities for Guanajuatenses.
Guanajuato’s economy moves through the following clusters:
- Food, Automotive, Fashion, Chemical, Construction, Housing, Logistics and Mobility, Pottery and Ceramics, Aerospace, Information Technologies, Medical Equipment and Mining, sectors that make up a broad and complementary productive ecosystem
This diversification allows Guanajuato to maintain a solid economic structure, where traditional industries coexist with highly specialized and technologically advanced sectors.
The State holds national leadership in activities such as:
- Automotive production, footwear, and the agro-food industry
- While it also strengthens its presence in emerging sectors like aerospace, information technology, and medical equipment
The automotive cluster continues to be one of the main drivers of Guanajuato’s economy, contributing 20.5% of the State’s Gross Domestic Product. Its leadership is also reflected in national results: in 2025, Guanajuato ranked first in vehicle production and second in the value of its automotive production, solidifying its position as one of the most important centers of the industry in Mexico.
The Food Cluster contributes 15% of the State’s GDP, positioning Guanajuato as the fourth largest national food producer, while the Fashion Cluster, made up of the leather-footwear, textile and clothing industries, generates 7.5% of the State’s GDP and keeps Guanajuato as the national leader in footwear production, with close to 75% of the pairs manufactured in the country.
Economic diversification is also reflected in the dynamism of other strategic sectors:
- The Logistics and Mobility Cluster contributes 7.4% of the State’s GDP
- The Construction Cluster contributes 6.4%
- The Chemical Cluster represents 6.1%
Guanajuato is strengthening its presence in high value-added activities such as:
- The Aerospace industry, Information Technologies and the Medical Equipment sector
These areas promote innovation, talent specialization and the development of new productive capabilities.
The results of the investment attraction policy support this strategy:
- 61 investment projects have been finalized in the current administration
- They represent $4.218 billion invested
- 15,694 committed jobs
- Already achieving 52.73% of the six-year goal
The arrival of investments in different sectors strengthens production chains, promotes technology transfer, generates jobs and expands development opportunities for the regions of the State.
Economic diversification allows Guanajuato to respond more effectively to changes in the global environment, reduce dependence on a single productive activity, and build a more resilient, competitive, and innovative economy.
The People’s Government, through the Secretary of Economy, informed that it will continue to strengthen strategic sectors, promote talent, and foster the necessary conditions for companies to grow and for investments to translate into more opportunities and prosperity for Guanajuatense families.
