State architects and arboriculture specialists praised the vision applied by Purisima del Rincon in its urban forestry initiatives. These were the main conclusions drawn by the Municipality during the second and final day of the Regional Forum for Sustainable Cities and Urban Forestry.

Roberto Garcia Urbano, Mayor of Purisima del Rincon, thanked participants from Guanajuato City, Dolores Hidalgo, San Francisco del Rincon, Leon, and Purisima del Rincon for attending the event.

The Mayor highlighted the participation of students from Yahualica and El Vigia school in San Nicolas del Palenque, noting that bringing together so many expert individuals enriches the feedback needed for future municipal decision-making.

During the second day of presentations at La Alameda Park, speakers emphasized that Purisima del Rincon’s recognition as a “Tree City of the World” serves as a launchpad for further progress.

The processes adopted in Purisima del Rincon include:

  • Regenerative Urbanism: Mariana Flores Garcia explained that the key lies in actions that anticipate urban growth, maintaining a structured planning process with short-, medium-, and long-term goals backed by continuous evaluation and monitoring
  • Waste Management and Regulations: Daniel Tagle and Juan Antonio Rodriguez, both of the University of Guanajuato, questioned the current regulatory framework for landfill operations when independent resources are lacking. They proposed a proper management system focused on waste reduction, which requires a shift in the current paradigm.
  • Species Balance: Iliana Zury Villasenor called for urban balance, urging cities to avoid division between native and introduced species, and instead focus on harmonization and treating each project individually. The Municipality of Purisima agreed with this stance, noting that this is precisely how urban forestry has been planned locally since 2021

Finally, the forum revisited the opening remarks by Francisco Rodriguez, a member of the Mexican Arboriculture Association (AMA), who emphasized that this effort represents the continuity of a new forestry culture, stressing that it is not just about planting trees, but actively caring for and maintaining them.

Citizens like Elias Marquez from Purisima del Rincon; Erendira Judith Rubiales, from the Dolores Hidalgo College of Architects; Maria de Jesus Dorado Caudillo, from the Guanajuato State College of Architects; and Rubi, a teacher at the Yahualica campus and member of the San Francisco del Rincon College of Architects, collectively congratulated the local Public Services staff. They recognized them as the soul of the city, praising their project planning from initial sketches and honoring the immense value of the work accomplished.
