The Secretary of Health of Guanajuato is strengthening its promotion, awareness, and medical coordination strategies to consolidate a favorable increase in the number of life-giving heroes in the state of Guanajuato.
The Secretary of Health of Guanajuato, Gabriel Cortes Alcala, specified that in 2010 there were 57 donors registered in the State, and since then there has been a significant increase in this commendable action that allows saving and improving lives.
After a period of fluctuations, 46 donors were recorded in 2021; however, from 2022 onwards, a sustained growth was observed with 63 donors, 86 in 2023, 127 in 2024 and 139 in 2025. As of April 2026, 42 donors have already been registered.
Regarding organ procurement, the coordinated work of medical personnel has allowed for an increase in the number of organs obtained for transplantation. In 2010, 158 organs were procured, while in 2021 that number rose to 192. In 2022, 237 organs were procured, in 2023 a total of 268, in 2024 a significant increase to 365, and in 2025, 420 organs were procured. So far in 2026, through April, 121 organs have been procured.
Regarding transplants performed, 265 procedures were carried out in 2010; 230 transplants were recorded in 2021; in 2022 this number increased to 306, in 2023 to 329, while in 2024 257 were performed and in 2025 321 transplants were reached. This year, up to April 2026, 109 transplants have been carried out.
These results are a product of the consolidation of hospital units licensed for organ procurement, as well as the constant training of medical personnel and social awareness about the importance of altruistic donation. The Secretary of Health recognizes the generosity of donors and their families, whose decision makes it possible to save and improve the quality of life of many people. It also reiterates the importance of strengthening the culture of voluntary donation as an act of solidarity and humanity.
