High demand reflects greater access to and continuity of care

The Secretary of Health of Guanajuato exceeded 8,000 specialist and subspecialty appointments scheduled at the General Hospital of Leon, in an intensive day that reflects the growing demand for services and the response capacity of the State health system.

The peak in appointment scheduling was recorded on April 16th from 10 to 11 a.m., with 488 appointments scheduled during one hour, an average of 8 per minute, for patients from different municipalities in the State.

With the appointments registered this Friday morning, the total exceeded 8,000, representing the same number of real opportunities for medical care, for thousands of people who now have access to timely diagnosis or the continuation of their treatment.

The scheduling period was extended until 8:00 PM on April 15th and 16th. However, those still needing to schedule an appointment can do so until April 30th.

The Secretary of Health, Gabriel Cortes Alcala, insisted that the demand for specialist and subspecialist consultations has grown by more than 40 percent, going from 107,000 appointments in 2022 to 151,000 in 2025, that is, 44,000 additional appointments.

This increase not only reflects a greater demand for services, but also a growing pressure on the capacity to provide care, which has forced adjustments to the schedule with the specialists.

The Secretary of Health of Guanajuato is working on the development of a technological strategy that will improve the management of specialist and subspecialist appointments for the uninsured population.

This strategy complements by in-person service, in order to maintain close contact with users and improve the service experience.

The secretary highlighted that Guanajuato has hospitals with excellent equipment and a supply of medicines exceeding 95 percent, elements that strengthen the trust of the population in the health system.
