SAPICA’s 94th edition marks a historic milestone, celebrating the 450th anniversary of Leon and the centenary of the Footwear Chamber

Leon continues to evolve as a premier industrial hub, driven by the talent of its people and a footwear sector that defines its identity, energizes its economy, and projects Mexican creativity onto the global stage.
On SAPICA’s 94th edition, Mayor of Leon, Ale Gutierrez emphasized the strategic importance of this event for the leather-and-footwear cluster. This year is particularly symbolic, coinciding with the 450th anniversary of the founding of Leon and the 100th anniversary of the Chamber of the Footwear Industry of the State of Guanajuato (CICEG).
“We must highlight the significance of this edition and remember how this industry has shaped our history,” Gutierrez said. “I cannot imagine Leon without this thriving sector, where forward-thinking leaders have driven the city’s progress.”
A century of craftsmanship and innovation
Under the banner “100 Years of Shoemaking Pride,” SAPICA aims to showcase the growth, innovation, and international reach of Leon’s footwear.
Juan Carlos Cashat Usabiaga, President of CICEG, noted that SAPICA is far more than a meeting point; it is a high-level business ecosystem that concentrates over 90% of Mexico’s national footwear offer.
“This 94th edition features a commemorative fashion runway celebrating our industry’s 100 years and the city’s 450th anniversary,” said Cashat. “This historic moment is no coincidence; it reflects a history of evolution, adaptation, and successful competition in the world’s most demanding markets.”

Claudia Cristina Villasenor Aguilar, Guanajuato’s Secretary of Economy, reaffirmed that SAPICA is the premier benchmark for the footwear and leather goods industry in Mexico and Latin America, positioning Guanajuato as the creative and productive heart of the sector.
“It is a convergence point where trends become visible, opportunities are generated, and alliances are strengthened to propel the industry forward,” Villasenor added.
With world-class events like SAPICA, Leon reinforces its status as the “Footwear Capital,” continuing to set international trends through a unique blend of innovation, talent, and tradition.
